Four Lions - Movie Review

Four Lions tells the story of a group of British jihadists who push their abstract dreams of glory to the breaking point. As the wheels fly off, and their competing ideologies clash, what emerges is an emotionally engaging (and entirely plausible) farce. In a storm of razor-sharp verbal jousting and large-scale set pieces, Four Lions is a comic tour de force; it shows that – while terrorism is about ideology – it can also be about idiots. {official site}

HIS review
What a brilliant piece of satire. Chris Morris (Brass Eye, The Day Today) takes us through a hilarious journey with an everyday bunch of terrorist wannabe’s. There are some (literally) side-splitting scenes in this film, with a combination of clever conversation between characters and slap-stick comedy. Morris does a good job of going places not many other films have gone in regards to making fun of terrorism. Some will think this isn’t a topic that should be made fun of. This inspire’s Morris to push further, and actually makes the film smarter and funnier. The plot isn’t 100% solid, but the minor glitches will soon be forgotten as you see four grown men ‘squat-jogging’ down a street with shopping bags full of explosives. Opening in Australia at the Sydney Film Festival, it is a must-see.

HER review
Absolutely hilarious! Chris Morris is a genius and he’s the only one that could tackle this subject and totally get away with it. Suprisingly for a Monday night the cinema was packed so it’s obviously a popular choice, and it was good to see that everyone ‘got it’. The relationship between Waj and Omar plays out in a really interesting way, Barry is an odd addition to this team of idiots but Fessal was the character that made it for me, Adeel Akhtar plays this part so well and had me in stitches! There are a lot of British references in this film so it has the danger of not translating well outside of the UK but there is no doubt this farce will entertain anyone that doesn’t take the subject matter seriously. Yes it is a sensitive subject and yes it is controversial but the film manages to gloss over this with some clever comedy. Definitely recommended viewing.
