HIS review
What seems to be a run of the mill romcom does turn a little weird at times as we see more of Jonah Hill‘s character, Cyrus. Cyrus is a little too close to his mum, played by Marisa Tomei. Cyrus is on a mission to keep his mum to himself, which is threatened by the introduction of John C Reilly’s character, John. This is when the film turns slightly odd, with the only thing saving it being the comedic interaction between the two leads. The oddball character suits Jonah Hill to a T. Watching him play with his synthesisers is not only mesmerising, but very disturbing. John C Reilly does a good job keeping up with Jonah on comedy value and Marisa Tomei isn’t too annoying, which make the movie worth watching. Funny and “different” but nothing amazing.

HER review
I’m not a big fan of John C Reilly so if I’m honest I wasn’t expecting much from this film. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not going to set the world alight but it was an entertaining, watchable film, and John C Reilly was bearable! I liked the way that his character’s relationship with his ex-wife (Catherine Keener) was mirrored between Cyrus and his mum (Marisa Tomei). Jonah Hill played Cyrus really well, he had the right level of creepiness and comedy. I liked it that the ending wasn’t summed up for you but instead you were left to decide for yourself what happened after the credits rolled – although I hope that doesn’t mean there will be a sequel!!
