HIS review
On first viewing I did not enjoy this movie. I was unprepared for it’s originality, or Christopher Nolan‘s genius. As the story begins at the end and gradually converges to the end… or beginning… Nolan uses this clever device to good effect and makes Memento warrant multiple viewings. Each viewing reveals even more of the story, as we follow Guy Pearce‘s character seeking out his wife’s murderer. One of Christopher Nolan’s first feature films, Memento exudes what he as now become famous for.

Some may see a plot hole in the ability of the lead character to remember the fact he has short term memory loss. For me, this is explained throughout… remember Sammy Jankis? Despite this potential flaw, Memento offers more than enough to make it a brilliant film.

HER review
Another Christopher Nolan stroke of genius. The way this is filmed makes you think that you have the same condition as Leonard, Guy Pearce’s character (and how good is Guy by the way!). Memento was based on a short story by Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonathan called ‘Memento Mori’ and is a clever journey of a man living with short term memory loss searching for revenge for the murder of his wife. As usual with a Nolan film, there are twists and turns that you think you see coming but then he just throws something in to upset your theory. Loved it!
