Tomorrow When The War Began - Guest Review

I went into this movie completely unaware of what the books were about. So I had no idea what to expect. Turns out, I loved what I saw!

For an Australian action blockbuster this movie really holds it’s own. Though it does have its flaws.

The script seemed a little empty at times and not very well thought out. I felt it could of had more dialogue and spent a little more time showing the development of the friendships (they all seemed to be very chummy even though there were a couple of kids who were clearly not in the group but were still invited camping).

I thought the young ensemble that was put together were all fantastic choices. The acting really stood out, though there were some scenes (due to poor script writing) that seemed either too acted or just plain unbelievable. The standouts here are Caitlin Stasey as Ellie Linton, Lincoln Lewis as Kevin Holmes and my favourite, Deniz Akdeniz as Homer Yannos.

This movie had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The suspense was captured brilliantly and director Stuart Beattie did a great job. There are some great locations used in this film and some great special effects, which have not been seen in Australian films for as long as I can remember.

I look forward to seeing the sequels, if they get made, which I hope they do. It would be great to see an Australian movie series fairing against other big blockbuster series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film and as I said earlier, I walked in never having read the books and I walked out wanting to buy them all, which I did. I recommend everyone check it out!
